I like to to create simple, festive centerpieces that look great all season long. Plan your tablescape well and set it up right after Labor Day. It will look great until it’s time to pull out those Christmas decorations!
Sometimes the colors of the season don’t mix well with the colors of your home. For example, it can be hard to use bright red and green in a gray based home! When you use a neutral centerpiece, full of glorious texture and simplicity, it looks inviting and elegant all at the same time!
For this centerpiece, I used a copper vase filled with cotton branches for height, antlers and pine cones for texture, and antique glass votives for sparkle. When it’s time to set the table, I can use burlap and ivory linens and crisp white plates for a soothing, warm palette. Or add the splash of a green table runner and some evergreen cuttings from your garden to your silverware bundles for a fresh, woodland vibe. And best of all, this neutral look pairs with rooms of any color so looks great all season long.
And this simple formula can translate to your Christmas centerpiece as well. I can swap the cotton sorting basket for a silver tray, the copper vase and cotton branches for a crystal vase with flecked branches, the pumpkins for silver ornaments, and add some evergreen sprigs to create a cool, shiny look for my Christmas centerpiece. Then I can use my neutral dishes and green runner, or amp up the luxury with faux fur and velvet table toppers.
So start with an easy to live with neutral look and layer on the texture for your special meals to create a warm and festive table to enjoy family and friends this holiday season!
